What Dads really want! 1

Father’s Day is fast approaching, but what would he like this year? Stuck for ideas? I’ve been asking a few Dad’s lately and have been on the look out for some great handmade gift ideas. No socks, no ties, I promise!

Oh and don’t forget a fun handmade card- that’s a must! Try one of my kits if you need some inspiration.

This rocket design is available as a finished card, a beginner’s kit or an advanced kit. Personalise with your own photos to make it extra special. Here’s some more information about this year’s Father’s Day Card Design and how to find the kit that’s right for you.

New Dad

How shall we welcome a man to the wondrous world of parenthood? Most of the new mum’s wanted sleep for Mother’s Day – do we return the favour on the 18th June? That’s up to you (or maybe wait and see how disturbed your night’s ‘sleep’ was). My husband’s first Father’s Day was only a few weeks after our son was born, his last day of paternity leave. I can’t remember if I let him have a lie in – I’m guessing not as we were just ‘existing’ at that point! We did manage our first trip to the local pub as a family that day though – what a sweet reward!

Beer, chocolate and a personalised Freya gift. Phil (1)

Celebrate his first Father’s Day (and help him find his keys in those early, sleep deprived months) with this personalised keyring by The Willow Crafts.

Well, at this point the Mums needed some time apart but the Dads are all for some quality time together as a family. Entertain his inner child with a family day out that he can enjoy a little too much, but it’s ok because he’s looking after a toddler! A steam train ride, testing out some JCBs at Diggerland, testing out the drop slide at the soft play centre. Who knows, maybe the pre-schoolers will be on their best behaviour as a special treat for Daddy.

Children Aged 5-10

My eldest has just turned 7, so I wonder what my husband wants? We’ve talked about this blog post lots of times and he’s supported me – especially when I was struggling to get genuine quotes (I had plenty of sarcastic responses from their wives!) BUT…. I don’t think he’s ever answered the question! All I can remember is a comment about good wine….which means I’ll be heading to Bob‘s soon. I have found him the prefect present from someone on Etsy, but I won’t be spoiling the surprise by revealing anymore.

Let’s see what other Dad’s are after this year…

The bank of Dad is closed (for one day only). Darren (2, 6, 9)

A day out with the family and a nice meal.  Nu (4, 6)

Let out the inner-computer geek (or maybe not so inner!) with these slogan t-shirts from Hanging Monkey Arts. How many mini me’s would you need?
Order by 9th June to get your t-shirts in time for the big day.

Children Aged 11-19

So a house full of teenagers….me and my husband are not there yet (although the years are ticking past!). We often speculate about how we’ll cope with two teenage boys to keep fed and safe, which is why we’re moving to a bigger house with a chest freezer! Hans (in the quote below) is raising three girls, which I guess can get pretty noisy but I have been assure that his quote is in jest, so maybe just an hour or two.

Peace and quiet, a whole day to myself. Hans (10, 12, 13)

Who’s the favourite? This bottle opener from Beespoked gives a subtle dig to those pesky siblings. Order by 13th June to guarantee delivery.

Some fun extras

I had lots of fun looking for handmade Father’s Day gifts, so here are a few extra ideas for you!

Don’t forget Grandad! Would he appreciate this ethically sourced, wooden notebook? – handmade by Samantha at Polkadots Crafts.

Or is he not quite a Daddy yet? You can add your scan photo to this keepsake photo block by The Little Block Shop. Please order by 5th June.

Or will you be celebrating a Step-dad this year? this handmade wallet insert will give him a daily reminder of how special he is. Order from Made For You Art before 8th June.

All sorted?

Did you find something that will make his day? Do you have other ideas you want to share? If so, add them in the comments below.

Don’t forget to order your card-making kits in time to make your fab card before Father’s Day (that’s Sunday 17th June…not long now)
Order your Rocket card or kit before June 12th (for UK delivery)

After proof reading this for me, my husband tells me he wishes he had ‘a wife who could pick up on hints’ and failing that a day out with the family and a nice meal…meze or tapas. So I best get planning!

This is a really useful blog, with loads of good ideas. Sometimes gifts are so hard to choose. So glad to see Polka Dots Crafts mentioned. Samantha is a wonderfully creative lady with some really unusual stuff. This is combined with her friendly, excellent customer service.
