Meet the newest twins in town: Owliver & Owlivia
I’ve used this stamp set before to make this Birthday card last year. I think I also copied the design to make another card for thank you card for my son’s teacher.
With this design in mind, I set to work to transform it into a DbyD kit. Switching to a square card blank, replacing the copy-righted paper with the stamps I have permission to use.
Owlivia arrived first, with a similar pink reverse colouring as the original. I tested out the first Owlivia Sample Kit with Megan, a DbyD Club member – over in Australia! I couldn’t decide if it should be a pink or black patterned background, so I sent her both. If you’d like to help me with future designs, please join the DbyD Club and I pick a member at random each month to try a kit for free.
Megan is the owner-creator of Eidercraft and she added her sample kit to her blog. I love the adaptions of the design with the flower on the inside and decorating the envelope.
But it’s not all about Owlivia, I switched this design to create Owliver- a Kraft version. This is something I’ve done with all my Christmas designs but for some reason it’s not occurred to me to do the same with the Birthday designs!
What’s in the kits?
So the beginner’s kits will have all the pieces cut, coloured and edged ready to put together. Full written instuctions will guide you though how to stick everything together.
The Advanced kit has a sheet of stamped owls, flowers and leaves, You can reverse-colour them or make your own design by colouring the owls instead. Either way, the bubble-cutting (looping round the image) makes for a relaxing time in front of the telly. The kit contains the corresponding ink pad and sponge for you to add the hazy edge to the patterned panel and Hppy Birthday greeting.
My Favourite Design Details
- The reverse colouring is easy to do and creates a striking effect – the owls and flowers really pop!
- The black, nighttime background. It’s still a dun, colourful card but the twins are nocturnal
- The black enamel drops on the owl’s eyes and the flower centres. It gives them a magical glint in their eyes.
This card design will be available by the end of July 2018 – as a beginner’s kit, advanced kit or the finished card. I’m also considering a combination beginner’s kit – with two Owlivers and two Owlivias. Be the first to know when they’re ready by becoming a DbyD Club Member.
